Citadel 58 – Unique Property in the Old Town, Next to the Citadel and Central Park
You know what struck me first about Citadel 58? It’s actually tucked into this narrow cobblestone street that feels like you’ve stepped back a few centuries – and I mean that in the best way. The building itself sits right where the old town starts to climb up toward Brașov’s famous citadel, so you’re literally living inside the medieval walls here. When I walked up Strada Dealul Cetății (which translates to Citadel Hill Street, if you’re curious), I honestly wasn’t sure I was in the right place because it feels so residential and quiet, but that’s exactly what makes it special.
The property has this interesting mix of old-world charm and modern touches that actually works. The rooms have these thick stone walls that keep everything incredibly quiet – you won’t hear the tourist crowds from the main squares, which is honestly a blessing during summer when Brașov gets pretty busy. What I loved most was stepping out in the morning and having Central Park literally across the street. Not many people realize this, but locals use that park for their morning jogs and dog walks, so you get this authentic slice of daily life right outside your door. The citadel entrance is maybe a three-minute walk uphill, and here’s a tip – go up there around sunset because the views over the red rooftops are incredible, and you’ll have it mostly to yourself.
The staff clearly knows the area well, which makes a huge difference when you’re trying to navigate Brașov’s winding streets. They pointed me toward this little bakery on Strada Republicii that I never would have found otherwise, and honestly, those pastries were better than anything in the touristy spots near the Black Church. Parking can be a bit tricky (welcome to European old towns), but they help you figure it out, and once you’re settled, you really don’t need a car anyway. The main pedestrian areas are all within walking distance – maybe ten minutes to Council Square where all the restaurants and cafes are clustered. I actually preferred walking back uphill to the hotel after dinner because you escape the crowds pretty quickly, and the narrow streets have this lovely evening atmosphere with the old streetlights. The 8.9 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be a fancy resort, but it nails what it’s going for: a comfortable, authentic base for exploring one of Romania’s most beautiful cities. If you want to feel like you’re staying in medieval Brașov rather than just visiting it, this is your spot.
