HOTEL OVERVIEW

So I stumbled across Chaty Świerkowe Wzgórze during a winter trip to Karpacz, and honestly? This place completely changed my perspective on what a mountain getaway should feel like. The name’s a bit of a mouthful – it basically means “Spruce Hill Chalets” – but don’t let that intimidate you because these aren’t your typical tourist cabins.

First thing you notice pulling up to Podleśna 5 is how tucked away everything feels, even though you’re literally minutes from the main drag where all the tourists cluster around the Wang Church. The superior cabins with saunas are absolutely worth the extra cost – I mean, there’s something magical about sitting in your own private barrel sauna after a day hiking up Śnieżka, then stepping out to that crisp mountain air. The regular cabins without the sauna setup are still solid choices though, especially if you’re traveling with kids who’d rather spend time by the fireplace anyway. And speaking of fireplaces, they actually provide proper firewood, not those fake logs some places try to pass off.

What really got me was the attention to small details that most places completely miss. The kitchenettes are actually functional – you know, with real knives that cut things and pots that aren’t warped beyond recognition. There’s decent parking right there (which anyone who’s driven around Karpacz during ski season will appreciate), and the sound insulation between units is surprisingly good. I was worried about noisy neighbors, but honestly, the spruce trees do most of the work in keeping things peaceful. The 9.2 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be some fancy resort, it’s just doing the cabin experience really, really well. You’re close enough to walk into town when you want pierogi and beer, but far enough up the hill that you feel like you’re actually in the mountains, not just visiting them. Perfect for couples wanting that romantic mountain vibe, but also works great for families since there’s space to spread out and the kids can actually run around outside without you panicking about traffic.

What could be improved: I had a frustrating experience staying at this house due to several issues. The heater was not working properly and we were asked to use the fireplace instead which was chargeable, this issue fixed later but, it was very late, our kids had a cold and we had to look for a doctor on the next evening and of course we did not find and open hospital, aptek at that time. The floor was very cold. There were no restaurants or cafes nearby, so we had to travel to the center for meals. Additionally, there were hidden costs for various things, about of which we were informed after arriving to the location and the price for a 0 year old child, mistakenly I made a reservation without this child, was the same as for an adult🤦‍♂️. This is small things but not what we would like to see on our vacation.

Overall, the house itself may have been nice, but the numerous issues encountered during my stay made it an unpleasant experience. I would not recommend this house to others who plan to visit Karpach with kids. Also if you without a car, this place is definitely not for winter trips.
