Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Chaty Misiagi on Za Torem street – I mean, the address sounds pretty unassuming, right? But this little gem tucked away in Poronin completely surprised me. You know that feeling when you discover a place that just gets it right? That’s exactly what happened here.
The thing about Poronin is that most people just blow through it on their way to Zakopane, but they’re missing out. Chaty Misiagi sits in this perfect sweet spot where you’re close enough to all the Tatra Mountain action (seriously, you can practically see the peaks from some rooms), but far enough from the tourist chaos that you can actually hear yourself think. The owners – and I’m pretty sure they live nearby because they seem to know everyone in town – have created something that feels more like staying at your Polish mountain friend’s really nice cabin than a typical hotel. The rooms have that cozy, timber-heavy vibe you want in the mountains, but with proper heating and none of that rustic-but-actually-uncomfortable nonsense.
What really won me over though was all the little stuff that shows someone actually cares about this place. The parking situation is refreshingly drama-free (trust me, if you’ve driven around Zakopane looking for a spot, you’ll appreciate this), and they’ve got this outdoor area where you can sit with a beer and just… decompress. I spent way too many evenings out there just watching the light change on the mountains. The breakfast – well, it’s proper Polish mountain food, not some sad continental spread – includes local cheeses and meats that actually make you want to get up in the morning. And here’s something you don’t expect: the WiFi actually works reliably, which matters if you’re trying to upload all those hiking photos or, let’s be honest, convince your boss you’re working remotely. The staff speaks decent English, but they’re also patient if you want to stumble through some Polish phrases. During peak season (July and August get pretty busy), you’ll want to book ahead, but even then it never feels overcrowded. I’ve stayed here in both summer and late fall, and honestly, I think I prefer the quieter shoulder seasons when you can really soak up that mountain atmosphere without fighting for trail space.
