Honestly, when I first pulled up to Chata pod Śnieżka, I wasn’t sure what to expect – the address just says Ściegny 159a, which sounds pretty remote, and it is. But that’s actually the whole point. This place sits tucked away in the Polish countryside near the Czech border, and I mean properly tucked away. You’ll drive through what feels like nowhere, past farmhouses and rolling hills, until you spot this charming wooden chalet that looks like someone’s mountain dream come to life.
The thing about this place is that it doesn’t try to be anything other than what it is – a genuine mountain retreat that happens to nail all the details. There’s no official star rating because, well, it doesn’t fit into those neat little categories. The owners (who actually live on the property) have created something that feels more like staying at a really well-appointed friend’s cabin, if your friend happened to have impeccable taste and serious attention to detail. The rooms have this perfect balance of rustic charm and modern comfort – thick wooden beams overhead, but you’ll find heated floors underfoot and surprisingly good WiFi. The beds are seriously comfortable too, which matters when you’re planning to spend your days hiking in the nearby Sudetes.
What really won me over was how quiet it gets at night. I’m talking proper countryside quiet – no traffic, no city hum, just the occasional sound of wind through the trees. During the day, you’re maybe a twenty-minute drive from some fantastic hiking trails, and the owners know all the good spots that don’t show up in guidebooks. They’ll point you toward the less crowded paths up toward Śnieżka peak, or suggest the perfect place to grab lunch in one of the nearby villages. Parking’s never an issue (there’s plenty of space), and check-in feels refreshingly personal – none of that corporate hotel desk experience. The breakfast is worth mentioning too – local ingredients, homemade bread, and coffee that’s actually good. It’s the kind of place where you end up staying an extra day just because leaving feels wrong, especially if you catch one of those perfect mountain sunsets from their terrace.
You'll need to let the property know in advance what time you'll arrive.
