Parking was easy and free (which, if you’ve driven around Slovak mountain towns, you’ll appreciate), the Wi-Fi worked perfectly even during the evening rush when everyone’s uploading their hiking photos, and check-in was refreshingly straightforward. The woman at reception gave me these detailed directions to a hiking trail that starts literally behind the hotel – not some touristy route, but a local path that connects to the main Tatras trails. I never would have found it otherwise, and it ended up being the highlight of my trip. The rooms are clean and comfortable, nothing fancy but everything works. Actually, the shower had better water pressure than my last 4-star hotel, which says something. If you’re planning to visit during summer, book early – Nova Lesna gets busy with Slovak families on vacation, and this place seems to be a bit of a local secret. The 9-point rating makes total sense once you’re there; it’s not trying to be something it’s not, just doing everything right at a fair price with that killer view thrown in as a bonus.
