The floors don’t creak when you walk around at night (trust me, I’m a light sleeper), and the windows are properly insulated – something you’ll appreciate if you’re visiting during those chilly Transylvanian evenings. The rooms are clean without that sterile hotel smell, and I mean genuinely clean, not just surface-level tidy. Sure, it’s a 3-star place, so don’t expect marble bathrooms or fancy minibars, but everything works properly and feels well-maintained. The wifi is surprisingly decent too, which isn’t always a given in smaller Romanian towns.

What really sets this place apart is how the owners seem to understand their location. Horea isn’t exactly a tourist hotspot – it’s more of a gateway to the Apuseni Mountains – but they’ve positioned themselves perfectly for people who want to explore the area without dealing with crowded resort towns. The parking situation is straightforward (no hunting for spots on narrow streets), and if you’re planning day trips to places like Turda Salt Mine or the Scarisoara Ice Cave, you’re actually in a better position than if you stayed in Cluj-Napoca and dealt with all that traffic. I stayed there during late spring, and the mornings were incredibly quiet – just birds and the occasional car passing by. The kind of quiet that makes you realize how much city noise you usually tune out. The 8.9 rating makes total sense when you consider that this isn’t trying to be a luxury resort – it’s just doing the basics really well while giving you that authentic Romanian countryside experience without roughing it. If you’re the type who needs room service and a concierge, this probably isn’t your place. But if you want somewhere comfortable to crash after hiking in the mountains or exploring the region’s traditional villages, and you appreciate staying somewhere that feels more like a local secret than a tourist trap, then yeah, Căsuța din Povești delivers on its promise.
