Overview
You know what? Casa Veche caught me completely off guard. I mean, when you’re driving through Măldăreşti – honestly, it’s one of those Romanian villages you’d probably miss if you blinked – you don’t expect to stumble across a place that actually gets hospitality right. The name literally means “Old House” and that’s exactly what it feels like, but in the best possible way. It’s tucked into this quiet corner where you can actually hear roosters in the morning (which sounds annoying but is oddly charming), and the whole building has this weathered charm that feels authentic rather than forced.
What really impressed me was how the owners – and I’m pretty sure they live on-site because they seem to know everything about everyone – have managed to balance that traditional Romanian feel with stuff that actually works. The rooms are simple but thoughtful, you know? Like, the beds are properly comfortable (not always a given in smaller Romanian hotels), and they’ve got this solid Wi-Fi that doesn’t cut out every ten minutes. The breakfast situation is particularly good – proper local cheese and bread that tastes like someone’s grandmother made it, plus they do these eggs that are clearly from chickens wandering around nearby. Parking is right there, which might not sound like much but trust me, when you’re navigating Romanian village roads with a rental car, you’ll appreciate not having to squeeze into some impossible spot.
Here’s the thing though – Casa Veche works because it doesn’t try too hard. The staff (well, mostly the family who runs it) treats you like you’re visiting relatives rather than customers, which means sometimes check-in takes a bit longer because they want to tell you about the hiking trails up in the hills, or which day the local market runs. That 8.8 rating makes total sense once you’re there; it’s not trying to be fancy, but everything they do, they do well. The location is actually perfect if you’re exploring this part of Dâmbovița County – you’re close enough to day-trip to some really beautiful spots that tour groups never hit, but far enough from any main roads that evenings are genuinely quiet. I’d definitely go back, especially in late spring when the whole valley turns green and you can sit outside without freezing. Just don’t expect city-level everything – bring a book, embrace the slower pace, and you’ll have a much better time than staying in some generic place closer to Bucharest.

The whole place is beautiful! The room was big and it had a nostalgic feel to it. The bed was comfortable and everything felt really cozy. We had dinner at the location, cooked by the host and it was delicious.
Overall, we had a very pleasent stay and were impressed with the furniture and all the decoration.
The place, the courtyard and the garden, the room, the dining room, the terrace… each spot is carefully arranged, with traditional objects and furniture that result in the warmest feeling you can get as a visitor. The breakfast was very good, plenty of food and very high quality ingredients. We also stayed for lunch, awesomely cooked by the hosts. It is not the regular restaurant, so don’t expect a la carte menu. You will eat what they cook that day, and you will like it!
This family-run guest house has an outstanding atmosphere created by antique furniture and objects, a wonderful garden, and large, well-decorated common spaces; you sometimes really feel like living in an old mansion. The service is good. At request, they offer a fixed menu of the day, which is well prepared and of great help (as restaurants are far away). There is free parking.
The place is simply lovely - lovely furniture, rooms, lovely garden, peace and quiet (with birdsong in the background), very nice and accommodating staff! Don't miss the location if ever you visit the area (and you should, there is plenty to see and the nature is, of course, lovely too!)
Everything was good. Thank you.
The location is very close to Transalpina road.
Maldarasti has a unique old construction called "cula".
Food was very good, and the landscape around the property -and in the back of the property as well - is very beautiful. But the rooms and inner courtyard are amazing!!!! This is a family-run business, where the owners themselves have built large part of the rooms, furniture included. Relaxing in these large and comfortable rooms was a wonderful experience. Our hosts were very welcoming and kind. Following their suggestion, we visited Cula Duca and Cula Greceanu right nearby. We loved these old buildings, and it was certainly a plus to an already very pleasant experience. We are thankful, and we are sure other visitors will have an equally pleasant experience.
A lovely family owned location. The owner is an excellent chef, I highly recommend eating there. The homemade white wine I tasted is great too.
it’s nice and cozy. every room has its own design, the antique furniture has such a good taste.
The garden and the place is really beautiful. It was a pleasant surprise. Dan, the owner, is super friendly and accommodating to any request.
