You know what’s funny about Casa Sinca? I almost drove right past it the first time – it sits tucked away on Strada Piatra Mare in this tiny village called Timisul de Jos that honestly, most people have never heard of. But man, am I glad I found it. The whole place has this authentic Romanian mountain vibe that you just can’t fake, and after staying at way too many cookie-cutter hotels, this felt like stumbling onto something real. The building itself looks like it grew out of the landscape – all natural stone and wood that’s weathered just right, not that fake rustic stuff you see everywhere. When I pulled up, the owner (I think his name was Gheorghe?) came out personally to help with my bags, which was… well, it was nice, actually. None of that sterile front desk routine.
The rooms are what really got me though. I mean, they’re not huge or anything, but everything just works. The beds are seriously comfortable – like, sink-in-and-forget-your-troubles comfortable – and the linens smell like they’ve been dried in actual mountain air. My room had this massive window that looked out toward the Piatra Mare mountains, and honestly, I spent way too much time just sitting there with my coffee in the morning. The bathroom was spotless, good water pressure (always a gamble in smaller Romanian places), and they had these thick towels that felt like luxury. What surprised me most was how quiet it gets at night – I’m talking dead silent except for the occasional sound of wind through the trees. If you’re used to city noise, it might actually keep you awake at first.
The breakfast situation is where Casa Sinca really shines. They serve it in this cozy dining room with exposed beams, and everything – I mean everything – is made from scratch. Fresh bread, local honey, eggs from their own chickens, and this amazing sheep cheese that I’m pretty sure came from down the valley. The coffee’s strong and hot, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many places mess that up. Parking’s easy (just pull up front), and if you’re planning to explore the Piatra Mare National Park, you’re literally at the perfect launching point. The hiking trails start basically from the hotel’s backyard, and the staff actually knows the routes – they gave me a hand-drawn map that was more helpful than anything I found online. Look, the 9.9 rating isn’t inflated marketing nonsense. This place delivers on that promise of authentic mountain hospitality that most hotels just pretend to offer. It’s the kind of spot where you arrive planning to stay one night and end up extending your trip.
