Casa Maia Dambovicioara

Rating:
HOTEL OVERVIEW
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Casa Maia Dambovicioara – honestly, the name sounds more impressive than the quiet little road it sits on in Valea Cheii. But this place completely surprised me, and I mean that in the best way possible. It’s tucked into this gorgeous valley setting where you can actually hear the Dambovicioara River running nearby (especially at night when everything else goes quiet), and the whole property feels like someone’s well-loved family retreat that they decided to share with the world. The 4-star rating is spot-on – it’s not trying to be some fancy resort, but everything just works really well. Check-in was smooth, parking’s right there without any drama, and the staff actually seems to know the area instead of just reading from a script.
What really got me was how they’ve managed to balance being comfortable without losing that authentic Romanian mountain feel. The rooms are genuinely nice – I mean, you’re not going to find marble bathrooms or anything, but the beds are properly comfortable and everything feels clean and well-maintained. The views though… if you get one of the rooms facing the valley, you’re basically looking out at this postcard of the Carpathians that changes completely depending on the weather. I was there in late spring and watched morning mist roll through the mountains while having coffee – honestly, it’s the kind of thing that makes you understand why this place has such a crazy-good 9.7 rating. The location is actually perfect for exploring the area too, since you’re close enough to Dambovicioara Cave (which is absolutely worth the visit) and the Piatra Craiului National Park without being stuck in some touristy strip with buses rumbling by all day.
Here’s the thing about Casa Maia – it feels like staying with locals who actually care about showing you their corner of Romania. The breakfast features real local stuff (not just the usual hotel buffet situation), and when I asked about hiking trails, they knew exactly which ones would be good for my fitness level and how long they’d take. It gets busy during Romanian holiday weekends, so book ahead if you’re planning around those times, but otherwise it maintains this peaceful, almost retreat-like atmosphere. The whole Valea Cheii area is pretty quiet anyway – you’re not going to find nightlife or shopping, but if you’re looking for a base to explore the natural beauty of this part of Transylvania, or just want to disconnect for a few days, this place delivers exactly what it promises. Fair warning though: you might find yourself extending your stay once you settle in and realize how genuinely relaxing it is here.

Location is great, we had plenty of snow as well. Very cold outside (-14) but the lady kept the house very warm! You have pretty much everything you need for a cottage in the mountains, staff very friendly and she cooked delicious breakfast for all of us. The kids were very happy as well, is the perfect place if you want to relax for few days...

The place we liked the most on the trip. Sitting in a quiet location near the stream. Lots of walking trails. The owners are pleasant and welcoming. The apartment is not big but nicely decorated. The owners helped with everything needed and gave recommendations. I would love to come back again.

So, we enjoyed the stay very much here because it had everything we needed. Note that we rented the 2 bedroom apartment: - private bathroom - private kitchen - running hot water - wifi - tvs One tv even had netflix on it. The awesome thing is that you get all this, but you are away from the crowds, as the property is about 4km on a forest road...

The host prepared bread for us in the morning! We really felt pampered. The host, Georgiana, and her daughter made everything perfect. Apartment with two rooms, private kitchen and bath, surrounded by quietness on a side road. Activities: hiking, visiting Dambovicioara cave, and the Dambovicioara gorge. About 40m driving from Bran Castle, on a...

Great host. No words. In the morning there was a surprise: home baked bread. Made us feel like home. The small apartment had everything you needed for breakfast. During the night, the rooms were pretty warm and cozy.
The bonus were the much too friendly cats. All 6 of them. They even put on a little show :)

Doamna foarte foarte amabila. Ne a ajutat cu ceva mancare pentru cel mic sa i prepar, sanie pt copiii, foarte deschisa in tot ceea ce am avut nevoie. Caldura a fost foarte buna pt perioada aceasta, la fel si apa fierbinte.
