Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked down Strada Moș Ion Roată looking for Casa Grinda, I almost missed it entirely. It’s tucked into this narrow cobblestone street in the heart of Sibiu’s Old Town, and from the outside, it looks like just another one of those centuries-old Saxon houses with thick walls and small windows. But that’s actually part of what makes it so perfect, you know? You’re literally staying inside a piece of history, not some modern hotel that’s trying to fake it.

The moment you step inside, though – wow. Someone really knew what they were doing with this renovation. The rooms manage to feel both authentically medieval and surprisingly comfortable, which honestly isn’t easy to pull off. I mean, you’ve got these gorgeous exposed beams and stone walls, but then the bed is actually decent and the bathroom works properly (trust me, that’s not always a given in these old buildings). The whole place has maybe eight or nine rooms, so it never feels crowded or impersonal like those bigger places near the main square. Actually, that’s another thing – while everyone else is fighting for space around Piața Mare, you’re staying on this quiet side street where locals actually live. I could hear church bells in the morning instead of tour groups, which was perfect.

What really sold me on Casa Grinda was how the owners – I think they’re a local family – seem to actually care about the place. They’ll tell you which restaurants to hit up that aren’t tourist traps (there’s this amazing ciorbă de burtă place about two blocks away that I never would have found otherwise), and they know things like when the Brukenthal Museum is least crowded. The 9.2 rating makes total sense once you’re there for a day or two. It’s not fancy in that generic luxury hotel way, but everything just… works. The WiFi is solid, the heating keeps up with those thick stone walls, and honestly, the location can’t be beat. You can walk to the Bridge of Lies in about three minutes, but when you come back at night, you’re not dealing with all the noise and crowds. Plus – and this matters if you’re driving – they actually help you figure out parking, which in Sibiu’s Old Town is basically like solving a puzzle. Just don’t expect a big lobby or room service or anything like that. This is more like staying in someone’s really cool historic house, where everything feels personal and authentic rather than polished and corporate.
