I mean, when they say “langa lac,” they’re not kidding around – you’re literally steps from Colibița Lake, and the view from these apartments is something else. The morning mist rolling off the water, the way the Carpathian hills frame everything… it’s the kind of scene that makes you understand why people drive all the way up here from Bistrița. The apartments themselves are surprisingly well-maintained for a 3-star place. Nothing fancy, but everything works (which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given in mountain accommodations). The kitchenettes are actually functional – not just a mini-fridge and a prayer – so you can make real meals if you want. That’s clutch because while there are restaurants in the area, having the option to cook your own breakfast while watching the sunrise over the lake? Pretty unbeatable.

What really sets this place apart is how it feels authentic to the region without trying too hard. The owners clearly know their stuff – they’ll point you toward the better hiking trails (skip the crowded ones everyone talks about) and let you know when the lake’s best for swimming versus when it’s too cold, even in summer. Parking’s easy, which is a relief after navigating those winding mountain roads, and the whole property has this quiet, settled feeling that makes you want to slow down and actually relax. I stayed during shoulder season and it was perfect – busy enough that the local restaurants were open, but not so crowded that you felt like you were fighting for space.
