The rooms are… well, they’re not going to win any modern design awards, but there’s something refreshingly honest about them. Mine had this massive armoire that looked like it belonged in a Transylvanian castle (which, let’s be real, isn’t far from the truth around here), and the bed was surprisingly comfortable – none of that rock-hard European mattress nonsense. The bathroom was compact but functional, with water pressure that actually worked, which is more than I can say for some fancier places I’ve stayed. What really won me over was the breakfast setup – they serve it in this cozy dining room with mismatched chairs and tables, and the local lady who runs it makes these incredible homemade jams. You can taste the difference, you know?

The staff here gets it right without being fussy about it. Check-in was smooth, they spoke decent English mixed with some enthusiastic Romanian, and when I asked about parking (because let’s face it, driving in Brașov’s old town is a nightmare), they pointed me to a spot just around the corner that most tourists never find. It’s that kind of local knowledge that makes the difference. Sure, it’s a 3-star place and it shows in some ways – the WiFi can be spotty, and don’t expect a fitness center or room service – but honestly, who needs that when you’re steps away from the Black Church and Tampa Mountain? The 9.1 rating makes perfect sense once you realize this isn’t trying to be a luxury hotel; it’s trying to be a comfortable, authentic base for exploring one of Romania’s most beautiful cities, and it absolutely nails that brief. I’d book it again without hesitation, especially for that unbeatable location and the genuine warmth of the place.
