You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to this tiny chalet on Dr. Nicolae Fălcoianu street – honestly, the name “tiny” had me worried I’d be sleeping in a glorified closet. But stepping inside, I actually got it. This place is small, sure, but it’s that kind of thoughtful small where every inch serves a purpose and somehow feels incredibly cozy rather than cramped.
The thing about Cîmpulung is that it’s not exactly crawling with tourists (which is honestly part of its charm), so finding a spot that gets hospitality right is pretty special. The owners here clearly know their stuff – check-in was smooth, parking was no hassle, and they actually seemed to care about making sure I had everything I needed. What really struck me was how quiet it gets at night. I mean, you’re still in town so there’s the occasional car, but compared to staying in Bucharest or even Brașov, this felt like a different world entirely. The chalet sits in this residential area that feels properly Romanian – you’ll see locals heading to work in the morning, kids playing in nearby yards, that sort of authentic neighborhood vibe you can’t manufacture.
The attention to detail is what bumps this from “nice little place” to somewhere I’d actually recommend to friends. The bed was legitimately comfortable (and I’m picky about mattresses), the shower had proper water pressure, and – this might sound silly – but the WiFi actually worked reliably, which isn’t always a given in smaller Romanian towns. I loved that they’d thought about practical stuff too, like having enough outlets near the bed and decent lighting for reading. The whole place felt clean without that sterile hotel smell, more like staying at a friend’s well-kept guest house. What surprised me most was how well-positioned it is for exploring the area – you’re close enough to the town center that you can walk to restaurants and shops, but far enough out that you’re not dealing with any noise or crowds. If you’re planning to explore the Carpathians or visit some of the monasteries in the region, this makes a solid base camp. Just don’t expect room service or a concierge desk – this is about quality basics done really, really well.
