You know what caught me off guard about Camp66? The name had me expecting some kitschy Route 66 theme park situation, but honestly, this place is way more sophisticated than that. It’s tucked up on Widokowa Street – and yeah, that literally means “scenic” in Polish, which should’ve been my first clue about what I was walking into. The location is actually pretty brilliant if you know Karpacz at all. You’re high enough up the hillside to get those proper Karkonosze mountain views, but you’re not stuck way out in the middle of nowhere either.
The whole vibe here is sort of… I mean, it’s hard to pin down exactly. There’s definitely a retro American road trip thing happening with the decor, but they’ve done it in this really tasteful way that doesn’t feel like you’re sleeping in a diner booth. The rooms are actually quite modern – good WiFi, proper heating (trust me, you’ll appreciate this in the Sudeten Mountains), and the beds are legitimately comfortable. I stayed there during shoulder season in October, and while some of the other places in town felt a bit tired and worn down, Camp66 had this energy to it. The staff genuinely seemed to care about what they were doing, which you don’t always find in mountain resort towns where half the workforce is just passing through.
What really sold me on the place was the breakfast situation – they’ve got this great setup where you can sit outside on the terrace when the weather’s decent, looking out toward Śnieżka peak while you drink your coffee. The food’s nothing revolutionary, but it’s proper and fresh, and they actually have decent coffee, which is honestly hit-or-miss in smaller Polish mountain towns. Parking’s never been an issue when I’ve been there, and the walk down to the main drag where all the restaurants and cable car stations are is maybe ten minutes downhill. Coming back up with a belly full of pierogi is another story, but that’s mountain town life for you. The 9.2 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not trying to be some luxury resort, but for what it is, they’ve really nailed it. If you’re looking for a place that feels both comfortable and authentic to the area without breaking the bank, Camp66 hits that sweet spot perfectly.
