They’ll tell you which baths are less crowded in the mornings (trust me on this one), and the reception guy actually knew the bus schedules to Drobeta-Turnu Severin without having to look it up. The rooms are nothing fancy, but they’re comfortable enough, and the water pressure is surprisingly decent for this part of Romania. You’ll sleep well here – the street is quiet at night, which is more than I can say for some places closer to the main drag.

Here’s the thing about Băile Herculane that guidebooks don’t tell you: it’s not just about the thermal waters, though those are obviously why you’re here. The whole town has this slightly faded elegance thing going on, and Bacolux Diana fits right into that vibe. It’s not trying to be some glossy resort – it’s more like staying with relatives who happen to live in a spa town. The breakfast is simple but solid (decent coffee, which matters), and parking is easy, which definitely doesn’t suck when you’re driving through the Carpathians to get here. The 8.9 rating honestly makes sense once you spend a night or two. It’s not luxury, but it’s exactly what you need when you’re here to relax in thermal baths and maybe do some hiking in the Domogled-Valea Cernei National Park. Plus, the price point is reasonable enough that you won’t feel guilty about extending your stay an extra day – which, let’s be honest, you probably will once you get into the rhythm of spa life.
