You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Bach Apartments on Johann Sebastian Bach Street – I mean, the name made me think it might be some pretentious classical music theme thing. But honestly, this place surprised me in the best way possible. It’s tucked into this quiet residential area that feels authentically Sibiu, not touristy at all, and you’re still just a ten-minute walk from the main square. The building itself has that solid, no-nonsense Romanian architecture, but inside it’s been renovated really thoughtfully. The apartments are spacious – I’m talking actual living room space where you can spread out, not those cramped hotel rooms where you’re bumping into furniture. The kitchenette was properly equipped too, which saved me a fortune since eating out every meal in Sibiu adds up fast (though honestly, the local restaurants are incredible, so maybe budget for a few splurges).
What really got me was the attention to detail. The Wi-Fi actually works – and I mean really works, not that spotty connection you get in half the places around here. The beds are comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up with that hotel-bed backache, and the bathrooms have decent water pressure, which you can’t always count on in this part of Romania. The whole place just feels clean and well-maintained without being sterile, if that makes sense. I stayed during late spring and the neighborhood was perfectly quiet at night – no street noise, no slamming doors from other guests. You can hear the church bells from the old town in the distance, which actually adds to the charm rather than being annoying. Parking was straightforward too, which is honestly a relief because navigating Sibiu’s old town with a rental car is… well, let’s just say it’s an adventure you don’t want to repeat daily.
The location really is the sweet spot – you’re close enough to walk to everything (the Brukenthal Museum, the Bridge of Lies, all those Instagram-worthy spots), but you’re staying where actual locals live. I grabbed coffee at this little place around the corner that doesn’t even have a sign, just follow the smell of fresh pastries in the morning. The host was genuinely helpful without being pushy, gave me solid recommendations for restaurants that weren’t tourist traps, and check-in was smooth even though I arrived later than planned. For a four-star place, the value is exceptional – I’ve paid more for much less in other Romanian cities. The 9.8 rating isn’t inflated marketing nonsense; it’s just a well-run place that does the basics really well and throws in some nice touches that make you want to come back to Sibiu just to stay here again.
