Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to B THE HOTEL on Grigore Bălan Street – I mean, Sfântu-Gheorghe isn’t exactly on every traveler’s radar, you know? But this place actually caught me off guard in the best way possible. The building itself has this understated elegance that feels authentically Romanian without trying too hard, and when you walk in, there’s this immediate sense that someone here actually cares about details. The lobby smells faintly of fresh flowers (real ones, not that artificial hotel scent), and the check-in was surprisingly smooth – no waiting around while they figure out their computer system.

What really won me over was how the staff seemed to genuinely know the area. When I asked about dinner recommendations, the front desk guy didn’t just hand me a tourist brochure – he actually walked me to the window and pointed out this fantastic local restaurant just two blocks down toward the town center. You can tell they get a mix of business travelers and people like me who are exploring Covasna County, and they handle both crowds well. The rooms are what I’d call “thoughtfully modern” – clean lines and good lighting, but with touches that remind you you’re in Transylvania, not some generic hotel chain. The beds are legitimately comfortable (I’m picky about this), and here’s something you don’t always get: the WiFi actually works consistently, even when I was video calling back home.

The location is sort of perfect if you’re using Sfântu-Gheorghe as a base for exploring the region. You’re close enough to walk into the historic center – maybe ten minutes to Liberății Square – but far enough from the main drag that you’re not dealing with street noise at night. Parking was never an issue, which, honestly, can be a real headache in some Romanian towns. I stayed here during shoulder season in late spring, so I can’t speak to how busy it gets in summer, but the whole vibe felt relaxed and unhurried. The breakfast spread was better than expected too – proper local cheese and bread alongside the usual hotel fare, plus decent coffee that doesn’t taste like it’s been sitting around for hours. With a 9.7 rating, I was curious if it could live up to the hype, and honestly? It does. It’s one of those places where you can tell the owners actually stay here themselves sometimes – everything just works the way it should, without any of those little frustrations that pile up at lesser hotels.
