You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Art’e Boutique Rooms on Strada Kovács Miklós – honestly, the street name alone had me practicing pronunciation in the car. But this little gem in Băile Tuşnad completely caught me off guard. It’s tucked away in what locals call the quieter part of town, which actually works in your favor because you’re not dealing with the tourist crowds that swarm the main thermal bath areas, but you’re still close enough to walk there in about ten minutes.
The whole place has this authentic Romanian charm that doesn’t feel forced or touristy – I mean, you can tell they put thought into the details without trying too hard. The rooms are what I’d call “boutique done right” – not tiny like some places that use that word to justify cramped spaces, but thoughtfully designed with local artwork that actually tells a story about the region. The owner (who speaks surprisingly good English, by the way) mentioned that most of the pieces are from artists in the Carpathian area, and you can see why they chose them. There’s this one painting in the lobby that shows the Ciuc Mountains in a way that makes you want to hike them immediately. The beds are genuinely comfortable too – not just “good for a 3-star” comfortable, but actually restful. And here’s something I appreciated: the Wi-Fi actually works consistently, which isn’t always a given in smaller Romanian towns.
What really sold me on this place though was how it sits in the neighborhood. Băile Tuşnad isn’t huge, but staying on Kovács Miklós puts you right in the heart of where locals actually live and work. There’s a small bakery about two blocks down that opens ridiculously early (like 6 AM early) and makes these incredible cozonac pastries – the kind of local spot you’d never find if you were staying at one of those bigger hotels near the spa centers. The thermal baths are the main draw here, obviously, but being slightly removed from all that means you get a better sense of what the town is actually like. Plus, parking is way easier – there’s street parking right outside, and during my stay in September, I never had trouble finding a spot. The staff mentioned that summer can be trickier, but even then, there’s a small lot just around the corner. The 8.9 rating makes total sense to me – it’s the kind of place that does the basics really well without any pretense, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need when you’re exploring a place like this.
