Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of mountain places, but Apartment 55 Tatry caught me off guard in the best way possible. When you’re driving up Horská street in Veľký Slavkov, you might wonder if you took a wrong turn – it’s tucked away from the main tourist strips, which honestly turned out to be perfect. The building itself is understated, nothing flashy, but once you’re inside… well, it’s clear someone actually thought about what travelers need.

The apartment I stayed in was surprisingly spacious – I mean, you expect cramped quarters at this price point, especially this close to the High Tatras. But there’s real room to spread out here, and the windows frame those mountain views in a way that makes you want to grab your coffee and just stare for a while. The kitchen actually works (I’ve learned not to take this for granted), and they’ve got proper thick curtains that block out the early summer light if you’re trying to sleep in. What really impressed me was how quiet it gets at night – you’re close enough to the action but far enough that you won’t hear every tourist group heading back from dinner. The owner clearly knows the area well; they pointed me toward this little trail that starts practically behind the building, nothing fancy but it connects to some of the main hiking routes without the crowds you get at the popular trailheads.

Parking was straightforward – there’s space right there, no hunting around or paying extra fees. Check-in was refreshingly simple too, none of that awkward standing-around-waiting-for-someone-to-show-up drama. I stayed during what locals call the “shoulder season” in late spring, and honestly, it felt like I had the whole place to myself most evenings. The nearby village has enough restaurants and shops that you don’t need to drive everywhere, but it’s not overrun with tour buses either. For a 3-star place, the attention to detail surprised me – good water pressure, reliable WiFi, and they’d actually stocked some basics in the kitchen. My only minor gripe? The walls are a bit thin, so if you get neighbors who like to start their day at 6 AM, you’ll know about it. But given that 9 rating it’s got, I’m guessing most guests are pretty considerate mountain types anyway. If you’re looking for that sweet spot between budget-friendly and actually comfortable, especially as a base for exploring the Tatras without the resort town prices, this place delivers.
