Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from an apartment rental in Zakopane – you know how these mountain towns can be hit or miss with accommodations. But Apartment Chałubińskiego actually surprised me in the best way possible. The location is what really sold me on this place, and I mean that literally – you’re right on Chałubińskiego street, which locals will tell you is one of the quieter residential areas but still walkable to everything that matters. It’s maybe a 10-minute stroll to Krupówki (that’s the main pedestrian strip where all the chaos happens), but far enough away that you’re not dealing with drunk tourists stumbling around at 2 AM.
The apartment itself feels like someone’s actual home rather than a sterile rental property, which I appreciate. The furniture has that lived-in quality – not fancy, but comfortable in that “I could actually relax here” way. What I really loved was the kitchen setup; it’s properly equipped, not just the bare minimum you usually get. I ended up cooking quite a bit because, well, eating out in Zakopane every meal gets expensive fast, and honestly the local grocery stores have amazing regional products worth trying. The bathroom is compact but functional – hot water was reliable, which isn’t always a given in older Polish buildings. One thing to note: the walls aren’t super thick, so if you’re a light sleeper, pack earplugs. I could hear my upstairs neighbors occasionally, but nothing too disruptive.
Here’s what locals won’t tell you but I will – staying on this street puts you in prime position for morning hikes. You can actually walk to several trailheads without needing a car or dealing with the parking nightmare around Gubałówka. The Tatra foothills are literally your backyard, and early morning is when you’ll have the trails mostly to yourself before the tour buses arrive. Plus, there’s this little bakery about three blocks away that opens at 6 AM and makes the best oscypek (that’s the local smoked cheese) pastries – I’m talking warm, flaky pastry with that sharp, salty cheese that pairs perfectly with strong Polish coffee. Check-in was smooth, no drama, and the Rent like home folks were responsive when I had questions. The 8 rating feels about right – it’s not luxury, but it’s solid, clean, and in a spot that makes you feel like you’re experiencing Zakopane how the locals do rather than just passing through. If you’re planning to visit during peak season (July-August or ski season), book early because places like this that hit the sweet spot between location and price don’t stay available long.
