The apartments sit right in the heart of old Smokovec, which means you’re literally a five-minute walk from the funicular that takes you up to Hrebienok – and trust me, that’s gold when you’re hauling ski gear or just don’t want to deal with the tourist shuttle chaos during peak season.

What really won me over was how the place feels more like staying at a friend’s mountain house than some sterile hotel. The apartments themselves are spacious enough that you’re not tripping over your luggage, and honestly, having a proper kitchenette makes such a difference when you want morning coffee without trekking to the hotel restaurant (though the local places down the street are pretty solid too). The owners clearly know their stuff – there’s actually decent water pressure in the showers, which sounds minor until you’ve spent a day hiking around Skalnaté pleso and desperately need a hot rinse. I mean, the décor isn’t going to win any design awards, but it’s clean and comfortable, with those heavy wooden furnishings that somehow feel right in the mountains.

Here’s the thing that really sets Vila Vlasta apart though – the location is just perfect for exploring the High Tatras without dealing with the madness of the bigger resort hotels. You’re close enough to walk to the Tatranská električka station when you want to hop over to Tatranská Lomnica, but far enough from the main tourist drag that you’re not hearing groups of hikers stomping around at 6 AM (well, not too much anyway). The parking situation is actually manageable too, which anyone who’s tried to find a spot in Smokovec during summer will appreciate. And honestly? For what you pay compared to those fancy places up the hill, the 9-rating makes total sense – it’s not luxury, but it delivers exactly what you need for a proper Tatras experience without the tourist trap pricing.
