You know what struck me first about Apartmány v podhorí Tatier? The view from the parking area – I mean, you’re literally at the foot of the Tatras, and those peaks just dominate everything in the most incredible way. It’s on Tatranská street in Veľký Slavkov, which honestly isn’t the most happening town, but that’s exactly the point. You’re close enough to all the good hiking trails and ski areas without dealing with the tourist chaos of places like Štrbské Pleso.

The apartments themselves are actually really well thought out – whoever designed these clearly understood what people need after a day in the mountains. The kitchens are properly equipped (not those sad little hotel kitchenettes with one burner), and there’s enough space to spread out your gear without tripping over everything. I stayed here in both summer and winter, and the heating system works brilliantly, which… well, if you’ve spent time in this part of Slovakia, you know that’s not always a given. The Wi-Fi is solid too, though honestly, you’ll probably forget to use it once you see what’s outside your window. Check-in was straightforward – no fancy lobby nonsense, just efficient and friendly.

What really makes this place special is the location knowledge you get from the staff. They’ll point you toward trails that aren’t overrun with tour groups, and they actually know which lifts are running if you’re here for skiing. The grocery store in town is tiny but has everything you need for breakfast, and there’s this little restaurant about ten minutes away that does incredible bryndzové halušky – though they don’t always have it, so ask first. Parking is easy and free, which is a huge relief after dealing with some of the nightmare parking situations at bigger resorts. The only minor thing is that the walls aren’t super thick, so if you get unlucky with loud neighbors, you’ll hear them – but most people staying here are pretty respectful mountain types anyway. The 9 rating makes total sense when you consider what you’re getting for the price, especially compared to the overpriced hotels closer to the main ski areas.
