You’re right in Horný Slavkov, which means you can practically roll out of bed and onto hiking trails without dealing with the crowds and parking nightmares down in the more touristy spots. I spent mornings walking to trailheads that would take other visitors an hour of driving and searching for parking spaces. The local bus connections are decent if you want to venture further, but honestly, there’s so much accessible directly from here that I barely used my car after the first day. During peak season – and trust me, summer weekends get crazy in the Tatras – this location feels like insider knowledge. You get all the mountain access without the chaos, plus there’s something genuinely peaceful about returning to a quiet village after a long day on the peaks instead of some overcrowded resort town where you can’t find dinner after 8 PM.
