Apartmany Jaruska

You know what surprised me most about Apartmany Jaruska? The fact that it sits right there on Tatranska street but somehow feels completely tucked away from everything. I mean, you’re literally in Nova Lesna – which, honestly, most people just drive through on their way to the bigger Tatra towns – but this place makes that feel like a feature, not a bug.

The apartments themselves are… well, they’re exactly what you’d hope for in a 3-star spot, but with those little touches that make you think someone actually cares about the place. The kitchenettes are properly equipped (I’m talking decent knives and pans that aren’t warped), and the balconies – assuming you get one facing the right direction – give you these glimpses of the mountains that make your morning coffee taste better somehow. The owners clearly know their stuff when it comes to what travelers actually need versus what looks good in photos. There’s proper storage space, the Wi-Fi doesn’t cut out every five minutes, and the beds are firm enough that you don’t wake up feeling like you slept in a hammock.

What really gets me though is the location itself. Nova Lesna sits in this sweet spot where you can actually walk to places (there’s a decent grocery store maybe 200 meters down the road), but you’re not dealing with the summer crowds that pack into Strbske Pleso or Tatranska Lomnica. The train station is close enough that you can easily hop over to explore other parts of the High Tatras without the hassle of driving and parking. And honestly? The whole area has this lived-in feel that the more touristy spots have kind of lost. You’ll see locals walking their dogs in the evening, kids riding bikes around – it’s refreshing after staying in places that feel like movie sets. The rating of 9 out of 10 makes total sense when you consider what you’re getting for the price point. It’s not trying to be fancy, it’s just trying to be good at what it does, and that’s surprisingly rare these days.
