The location is pretty much perfect if you’re serious about exploring the High Tatras. Dolny Smokovec isn’t just some random village they stuck a hotel in – it’s actually the heart of the whole region, and you can tell the folks at Fortuna know their guests aren’t just here to lounge around the lobby. The apartments themselves have this lived-in quality that I really appreciate; they’re clean and well-maintained, but you can tell they’ve been thoughtfully set up by people who understand what you actually need when you’re spending days hiking or skiing. The kitchenettes aren’t just for show either – there’s proper cookware, not those flimsy tourist pans that barely heat water. And the WiFi actually works, which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given in mountain locations.
