You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Apartmány Alexander in Vrbov – honestly, I’d never even heard of this little Slovak village before booking. But there’s something really refreshing about finding a gem tucked away in a place where you’re not dodging tour buses every five minutes. The building itself sits right on the main road through town (which, let’s be honest, isn’t saying much since Vrbov’s pretty tiny), but it’s actually quite peaceful once you’re inside. The apartments have this clean, modern feel without being sterile – you can tell someone put thought into making them feel like actual homes rather than just hotel rooms.
What really won me over was how the owner, Alexander I assume, clearly knows his stuff about what travelers actually need. The kitchenettes aren’t just for show – they’re properly equipped, which is rare in my experience. I mean, how many times have you tried to make coffee in a place that gives you a kettle but no mugs? Not here. Plus, the Wi-Fi actually works throughout the building (trust me, I tested it), and there’s proper parking right outside, which is honestly a godsend when you’re driving through this part of Slovakia. The rooms are surprisingly spacious too – I had friends visit from Poprad (about 20 minutes away) and we could all hang out comfortably without feeling cramped.
The location is one of those things that seems like nothing special until you realize how perfect it actually is. Vrbov sits right at the foot of the High Tatras, so you’re literally 15 minutes from some incredible hiking trails, but you’re also close enough to Kežmarok and Levoča that you can easily explore those historic towns without the tourist crowds. I spent a morning just walking around the village – there’s this lovely old church and a few local spots where you can grab supplies or a decent meal. The whole area has this authentic feel that’s getting harder to find in Europe, you know? And honestly, for a 4-star place with a 9 rating, the prices are incredibly reasonable compared to what you’d pay in the more touristy mountain towns. It’s the kind of place where you end up extending your stay because you’re not stressed about burning through your travel budget, and the owners treat you like a neighbor rather than just another booking number.
