I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Apartman Tatry on Slavkovská street, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come in understated packages, and this little apartment-style spot in Nová Lesná really gets it right.
The thing about this place is that it actually feels like someone’s well-kept home rather than a sterile hotel room. I mean, you’re getting apartment-style accommodation which means you’ve got proper space to spread out – something that’s honestly pretty rare in this part of Slovakia without paying through the nose. The location is sort of perfect if you know the area; Slavkovská puts you right in the sweet spot where you can walk to the main action but you’re not dealing with tourist chaos outside your window at 6 AM. I stayed here during peak summer season and was pleasantly surprised by how quiet it stayed, even with the place being fully booked. The owners clearly know their stuff when it comes to soundproofing, or maybe it’s just the solid construction you get in these Slovak buildings.
What really won me over was the attention to practical details that most places completely ignore. Parking is actually sorted – no driving around in circles hoping to find a spot (if you’ve been to the High Tatras during summer, you know this is basically a miracle). The check-in was refreshingly straightforward, no bureaucratic nonsense, and they actually gave useful local recommendations rather than just pointing you toward the most expensive restaurant in town. The kitchen setup is legit functional too, not just for show – I ended up cooking several meals and had everything I needed, which saved me a fortune compared to eating out every night. The beds are properly comfortable, and I’m someone who usually complains about hotel mattresses being either too soft or feeling like concrete slabs.
Here’s the thing that really impressed me: the whole place has this lived-in quality that makes you feel settled rather than like you’re camping out temporarily. Maybe it’s the way the light comes through the windows in the morning, or how the common areas feel welcoming rather than staged – hard to pin down exactly, but it works. The 9 rating isn’t some fluke either; you can tell they’ve figured out what travelers actually need versus what looks good in photos. Sure, it’s not going to win any design awards, and if you’re expecting marble bathrooms and turndown service, you’re looking in the wrong place. But for the price point and the area, it delivers way more than it promises. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I was planning to spend most of my time exploring the region rather than lounging around the accommodation – which, let’s face it, is exactly what you should be doing when you’re this close to the Tatras anyway.
