You know what caught me off guard about this place? Walking into what I expected to be just another mountain apartment and finding this absolutely gorgeous sauna setup that honestly rivals some of the fancy spa hotels I’ve stayed at. PRIMO Stary Smokovec sits right in the heart of Nový Smokovec, and I mean literally in the sweet spot where you can walk to everything but still feel tucked away from the main tourist chaos.
The apartment itself is bigger than the photos suggest – I actually had to double-check I was in the right place because it felt more spacious than I expected. The sauna though, that’s the real star here. After spending days hiking around the Tatras (and let’s be honest, my legs were screaming), having a proper sauna session right in your own space is just… well, it’s perfect. The owners clearly know what they’re doing because everything from the temperature controls to the wooden benches feels professionally done, not like some afterthought addition. And the timing worked out great because you can use it pretty much whenever – no booking slots or shared schedules like you’d get at a hotel spa.
What I really appreciated was how they’ve set this up for people who actually want to explore the area, not just take Instagram photos. There’s proper storage for hiking gear, good lighting for sorting through maps and planning routes, and the kitchen is actually equipped for real cooking – not just reheating tourist food. The location puts you right between the old and new parts of Smokovec, so you’re literally a five-minute walk from the funicular station if you want to head up to Hrebienok, but also close enough to the shops and restaurants that you don’t need to plan every meal in advance. Parking was straightforward too, which honestly surprised me because mountain towns can be a nightmare for that. I stayed during shoulder season in late September, so it wasn’t peak crowded, but even then I could tell this place would be a solid choice year-round. The building’s got that solid, well-maintained feel that suggests it won’t fall apart during ski season, and the sauna is going to be even more amazing after a day on the slopes. If you’re planning to actually spend time in the mountains rather than just passing through, this hits all the right notes without any of the pretentious resort nonsense.
