You can hear it sometimes from the apartment, this gentle mechanical hum that becomes oddly comforting after a day or two. The building itself sits quietly enough that you won’t be dealing with street noise, but you’re still close enough to everything that matters. There’s a decent grocery store nearby (you’ll probably end up at Tesco Express more than once), and honestly, cooking in the apartment’s kitchen became one of my favorite parts of the stay – the setup is actually functional, not just decorative like so many rental kitchens.

What really sells this place, though, is how it handles the details that matter when you’re spending real time somewhere. The WiFi works properly throughout the apartment, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many mountain places get this wrong. Storage space is generous – I mean, you can actually unpack your suitcase completely, which feels like a luxury when you’re used to hotel rooms. The windows face the right direction to catch morning light without turning the place into a greenhouse by afternoon. Parking was straightforward too, no circling the block or trying to decode some complicated permit system. The 9 rating makes sense once you’ve been there a few days; it’s not flashy or Instagram-perfect, but everything works the way it should, and there’s something deeply satisfying about that. If you’re planning to use Starý Smokovec as your base for hiking or just want to experience the Tatras without feeling like a complete tourist, this apartment gets it right in all the ways that actually matter during a stay.
