You know what’s funny about Apartman Lucid C207? I almost walked right past it on my first visit to Starý Smokovec because it doesn’t scream “look at me” from the street. But honestly, that’s part of its charm – it sits quietly in this mountain village like it belongs there, which I guess it does.
The thing about staying here is that you’re basically living like a local for a few days, and I mean that in the best way possible. The apartment itself is surprisingly spacious (I was expecting something cramped based on European standards), and whoever designed it actually thought about how people really use a space. The kitchen isn’t just for show – you can actually cook a proper meal, which comes in handy since the village restaurants tend to close early during shoulder season. The beds are legitimately comfortable too, not those rock-hard European mattresses that leave you walking around like a question mark the next morning.
What really sold me on this place though was stepping out onto that little balcony in the morning with my coffee and realizing I could see the cable car station from there. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the funicular that takes you up to Hrebienok – no need to drive anywhere or catch shuttles. I watched families trudging up the hill with their hiking gear while I was still in my pajamas, which felt a bit smug, I’ll admit. The location is actually perfect for exploring the High Tatras without dealing with the chaos of the bigger resort towns. Starý Smokovec has this authentic mountain village vibe that places like Štrbské Pleso have sort of lost to tourism.
Parking was easier than I expected – there’s a spot that comes with the apartment, which is huge because finding parking in these mountain towns can be a nightmare, especially during peak hiking season. The whole check-in process was refreshingly straightforward too. No fancy lobby with marble everywhere, just practical efficiency that gets you settled quickly so you can get on with your vacation.
I mean, it’s not going to wow you with spa services or room service, but that’s not really the point. This is more about having a comfortable base camp while you explore some of the most beautiful mountains in Europe. The Wi-Fi actually works (shocking, I know), the heating keeps things cozy even when it’s snowing outside, and there’s something satisfying about coming back from a long hike to your own little space rather than a hotel room that feels like every other hotel room.
The 9-star rating makes sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be something it’s not, it just does everything really well. If you’re looking for that authentic Slovak mountain experience without roughing it, and you want to wake up practically at the trailhead, this place delivers exactly what it promises.
