Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Apartmán Crocus 313 on Szentiványho street – I mean, the building looks pretty standard from the outside, sort of blends in with everything else in Štrbské Pleso. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t feel the need to show off right away.
The thing about this apartment is that it actually gets the High Tatras experience right. You’re literally a few minutes’ walk from the lake (and I mean the real walk, not that tourist brochure “short walk” that turns into a 20-minute hike), and when you wake up in the morning, you can see why people make such a big deal about this place. The views from the windows – well, they’re not from every window, but the main living area looks out toward the mountains, and it’s the kind of thing where you find yourself just standing there with your coffee longer than you planned. The apartment itself feels like someone actually lives there sometimes, if that makes sense. There’s real attention to detail, not just the standard hotel furniture that looks nice but feels uncomfortable. The kitchen is properly equipped – and I say this as someone who’s been disappointed by way too many “kitchenettes” that barely have a working can opener. Here you can actually cook a decent meal, which matters when you’re staying for more than a couple nights and don’t want to eat out every single time.
What really sold me on the place though was how quiet it gets at night. Štrbské Pleso can be pretty busy during peak season (July and August are honestly a bit much), but Szentiványho street doesn’t get the foot traffic that some of the streets closer to the main tourist area do. You’ll hear the occasional car, but nothing that’ll keep you awake. And the heating actually works properly – which, trust me, matters more than you think when you’re up in the mountains and it’s October or March. The check-in was refreshingly straightforward too, none of that overly complicated key situation that some of these mountain places seem to love. Parking is right there, which saves you from that fun game of driving around looking for a spot with all your luggage in the back. I mean, the only thing I’d mention is that if you’re expecting daily housekeeping and all that hotel stuff, this isn’t really that kind of place – but honestly, that’s part of what makes it work. You get the space and the independence without paying resort prices, and you’re still close enough to everything that matters in Štrbské Pleso that you’re not missing out on anything.
