So I stayed at Apartamenty Willa Gusia last spring, and honestly? It’s one of those places that surprises you in the best way. You know how sometimes a 3-star place can feel tired and disappointing – well, this isn’t that. The moment you turn onto Za Strugiem street, you’re already in this quieter pocket of Zakopane that feels more residential, more authentic than the main tourist strips. The building itself has this charming villa character that actually lives up to the “Willa” in its name, with wooden details that fit perfectly into the Tatra mountain aesthetic without feeling like they’re trying too hard.
What really struck me was how the apartments are set up – I mean, you get proper space to spread out, which is huge when you’ve been hiking all day and need somewhere to dry out your gear. The kitchenette situation is actually functional (I cooked breakfast there several mornings), and the whole place has this lived-in comfort that makes you feel like you’re staying at a friend’s mountain house rather than some sterile hotel room. The owners clearly know their stuff about what travelers actually need – there’s solid Wi-Fi, decent water pressure, and the heating works properly, which trust me, matters when you’re visiting in shoulder season and the mountain weather gets moody.
You’re positioned really well here too, though not in that obvious touristy way. Sure, you can walk to Krupówki street in about fifteen minutes when you want the full Zakopane experience with all the crowds and highland cheese vendors, but you’re also close enough to some of the better trailheads that locals use. I loved being able to start my morning hikes without fighting through the main town center first. Parking was straightforward – no circling blocks looking for a spot like you get closer to the center. The 9 rating this place has earned makes total sense once you’ve stayed there; it’s not trying to be fancy, but everything works exactly like it should, and the value is honestly impressive for what you get. If you’re the type who wants a genuine base camp for exploring the Tatras rather than a place to just crash between tourist activities, this hits that sweet spot perfectly.
