Apartamenty pod Orłem – Rezydencja Modern
So I stumbled onto Apartamenty pod Orłem – Rezydencja Modern kind of by accident when my original Zakopane booking fell through, and honestly? Best travel mishap ever. The place sits on Goszczyńskiego street, which – if you know Zakopane at all – puts you in this sweet spot where you’re close enough to walk to Krupówki (the main drag) in about ten minutes, but far enough that you won’t hear drunk tourists singing Polish folk songs at 2 AM. The building itself has this interesting mix going on – it’s clearly been updated with modern touches, but you can still feel the old Zakopane character in the bones of the place.
What really got me was how the apartments actually feel like someone’s home, not some sterile hotel room. I mean, the kitchen had proper coffee (not those sad instant packets), and there were these little touches like local guidebooks that looked actually read, not just placed there for show. The whole “Modern” part of the name isn’t just marketing fluff either – the wifi actually works, the shower has decent pressure, and there’s this surprisingly good sound system if you’re into that sort of thing. My unit faced towards the Tatras, and let me tell you, waking up to that view with your morning coffee… well, it sort of makes you understand why people get obsessed with mountain towns. The place runs pretty quiet most of the time – I think the other guests were mostly Polish families and a few other travelers who’d done their homework rather than just booking the flashiest place they could find.
You know what really sealed it for me though? The whole experience just felt effortless. Check-in was straightforward (none of that awkward waiting around while they figure out their system), and when I needed recommendations for hiking trails that wouldn’t kill me, the advice was actually useful – not just “oh, everything here is beautiful.” The location works particularly well if you’re planning to explore beyond just the touristy bits of Zakopane. You’re positioned perfectly for morning hikes up Gubałówka or day trips to the lakes, but you can also easily walk to that excellent pierogi place on Kościeliska street that locals actually eat at. Parking was surprisingly hassle-free too, which anyone who’s driven in Polish mountain towns will appreciate. It’s the kind of place where you end up staying an extra day just because leaving feels unnecessarily complicated – and given that it’s got a 9 rating from people who’ve actually stayed there, I’m clearly not the only one who felt that way about it.
