Apartamenty pod Orłem – Rezydencja do Skoczni
You know what struck me first about Apartamenty pod Orłem? The name literally means “apartments under the eagle,” and honestly, it fits perfectly – this place has this sort of majestic mountain lodge vibe that immediately makes you feel like you’re somewhere special in Zakopane. I mean, the location on Makuszyńskiego street is absolutely perfect if you’re here for the skiing (which, let’s be real, most people are). You’re literally walking distance to the famous ski jump – hence the “Rezydencja do Skoczni” part of the name – and I could actually hear the cheers from competitions during my stay, which was pretty cool.
The apartments themselves are surprisingly spacious for a 3-star place, and the owners clearly get what travelers actually need. There’s proper kitchen setups in most units, which is clutch when you’re staying for more than a couple nights and don’t want to eat out every meal (Zakopane restaurant prices can add up, trust me). The décor has this nice balance of traditional highland touches without going overboard with the whole folk theme – you’ll see some nice wooden details and local textiles, but it doesn’t feel like you’re sleeping in a museum. What really impressed me was how quiet it stays at night despite being so close to the action. I was worried about noise from the nearby attractions, but the building’s positioning and what seems like decent soundproofing kept things peaceful.
Actually, the thing that bumped this place up in my book was the little details the staff gets right. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – none of that awkward hovering while they explain seventeen different amenities you’ll never use. The woman who showed me around clearly knew the area well and gave me actual useful tips about timing my ski jump visit and which trails to hit first thing in the morning before the crowds. Parking isn’t a nightmare either, which anyone who’s driven in Zakopane during peak season will appreciate. The only minor thing I’d mention is that some of the older units could use a bathroom refresh – nothing terrible, just showing their age a bit. But honestly, for the price point and that location, you’re getting incredible value. I’ve stayed at pricier places in Zakopane that didn’t have half the character or convenience this spot offers. If you’re planning a ski trip or just want to explore the Tatras without breaking the bank, this is definitely one to consider – especially if you can snag one of the newer renovated units.
