Honestly, when I first pulled up to Apartamenty pod Orłem on Goszczyńskiego Street, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place – but you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come in unassuming packages. The location alone made me do a double-take because you’re literally a stone’s throw from the ski jump (hence the name “near the jump”), and I mean that literally – you can actually hear the whoosh of skiers practicing if you’re there during training season.
The apartments themselves have this lived-in authenticity that I really appreciated. None of that sterile hotel chain feel, you know? My unit had these thick wooden beams and windows that actually opened wide enough to let in that crisp mountain air that makes Zakopane so addictive. The kitchen was properly equipped too – not just some sad mini-fridge situation – which came in handy since there’s a decent grocery store just down the hill on Krupówki if you want to grab some oscypek cheese and local bread for breakfast. I actually found myself cooking more than I planned because, well, the morning views of the Tatras from the kitchen window were just too good to rush past. The Wi-Fi worked fine for checking weather conditions and trail maps, though it did get a bit sluggish in the evenings when everyone was probably uploading their hiking photos.
What really sold me on this place was how the owner clearly knows the area inside and out. During check-in, I mentioned wanting to avoid the tourist crowds on Gubałówka, and they immediately suggested this lesser-known trail that starts practically behind the building – turns out it connects to the green trail system without having to deal with the cable car lines. The parking situation is solid too, which isn’t something you can say about everywhere in Zakopane, especially during peak season when the town turns into organized chaos. Sure, the bathroom could use some updating and the walls aren’t exactly soundproof (you’ll hear your neighbors if they’re early risers), but honestly, for the price and that location, I’m not complaining. If you’re the type who wants to be close enough to walk to the jump and the main drag but far enough to actually sleep at night, this hits that sweet spot perfectly.
