Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Apartamenty Maki on Konstytucji 3 Maja street, I wasn’t expecting much. The building’s got that solid, no-nonsense Polish architecture that doesn’t scream “vacation rental,” but you know what? That actually works in its favor. You’re right in the heart of Karpacz here, maybe a three-minute walk to the main drag where all the tourist stuff happens, but tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with the constant buzz of people wandering around with their hiking poles at 6 AM.
The apartments themselves are… well, they’re proper apartments, not those weird hotel-apartment hybrids where nothing quite works right. I mean, the kitchen actually has decent knives (shocking, I know), and the shower pressure doesn’t make you question your life choices. The whole place feels like someone’s grandmother kept it really, really well – everything’s clean and functional, maybe not Instagram-perfect, but honestly refreshing after staying in places that are all style and no substance. What really got me was the little details – decent Wi-Fi that doesn’t cut out every ten minutes, windows that actually open properly for those mountain breezes, and parking that doesn’t involve some elaborate puzzle of moving other people’s cars around. The 8.3 rating makes total sense because it’s exactly what it promises to be, nothing more or less.
Here’s the thing about this location though – you’re basically positioned perfectly for both the lazy vacation people and the hardcore mountain types. Walk one direction and you hit the cable car to Śnieżka (save yourself the four-hour hike up, trust me), walk the other way and you’re at those little restaurants where locals actually eat, not just the touristy spots with menus in five languages. I stayed here in late September, which was perfect timing honestly – still warm enough during the day but cool enough at night that you actually want to be inside. The owner seems to know what they’re doing too; check-in was straightforward, none of that awkward “let me find your reservation” dance that happens at bigger places. It’s not luxury by any stretch, but if you want a clean, comfortable base for exploring the Karkonosze without paying resort prices or dealing with hotel breakfast crowds, this works really well. Plus, having a proper kitchen means you can grab stuff from the local shops and not eat every meal out – which your wallet will definitely appreciate in a tourist town like Karpacz.
