Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Apartamenty Kowary Centrum on 1 Maja street, I wasn’t expecting much. Kowary isn’t exactly on everyone’s radar, you know? It’s this quiet little town tucked away in the Karkonosze foothills, and honestly, that’s exactly why it works so well. The building itself sits right in what passes for the town center (which is saying something in a place this small), but here’s the thing – you’re literally a few minutes’ walk from everything that matters. The local market, that decent pierogi place the locals actually eat at, and if you’re into hiking, the trailheads that’ll take you up into the mountains without fighting crowds of tourists.

What really got me about these apartments was how they just… worked. I mean, you walk in and everything feels like someone actually lives there, not like it was designed by committee. The kitchen had proper knives – you know how rare that is in rentals? – and the coffee maker wasn’t some ancient thing held together with hope. The beds were actually comfortable too, which honestly surprised me given how hit-or-miss apartment stays can be. There’s decent soundproofing, which matters because 1 Maja does get some traffic during the day, though it quiets down completely by evening. The WiFi was solid (I was working remotely for part of my stay), and the shower had proper water pressure. Small things, but they add up when you’re trying to feel settled somewhere.

What I really appreciated was the location’s sweet spot situation. You’re close enough to Karpacz and Szklarska Poręba for day trips – maybe 20-30 minutes by car – but you come back to this peaceful little town where you can actually park without drama and grab dinner without reservations. The staff knows their stuff too; they gave me proper directions to the lesser-known hiking trails, not just the touristy ones everyone finds online. Plus, if you’re traveling in shoulder season like I was, you’ll find the whole area much more authentic. Summer gets busy with Polish families, winter brings the ski crowd, but spring and fall? That’s when you get Kowary at its best – quiet, affordable, and honestly pretty charming once you settle in for a few days.
