Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Apartamenty Elmal on Przerwy-Tetmajera street, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the unassuming spots end up being the gems, and this little apartment hotel totally proved that point. The location is actually pretty brilliant if you know Zakopane at all – you’re tucked away on this quiet residential street (thank god, because the main Krupówki strip can get absolutely mental during peak season), but you can still walk to everything that matters in about ten minutes. I mean, you’re close enough to hear the evening buzz from the town center, but far enough that you’ll actually sleep through the night without drunk tourists stumbling past your window at 2 AM.
What really got me was how the place manages to feel like proper apartments rather than just hotel rooms with kitchenettes slapped in. The owners clearly put thought into the details – decent coffee makers that actually work, shower pressure that doesn’t make you want to cry, and honestly, the beds are surprisingly comfortable for what you’re paying. The whole setup works especially well if you’re planning to stay more than just a night or two, which most people do in Zakopane anyway. You can grab fresh bread from the little bakery down the street in the mornings, stock up on local cheese and oscypek from the market, and actually live a bit like a local instead of surviving on hotel breakfast buffets. The kitchens have everything you need, though I’d bring a decent knife if you’re planning any serious cooking – that’s always the thing they skimp on.
Parking was way easier than I expected too, which is saying something in this town where finding a spot can be like winning the lottery during ski season. The staff doesn’t hover, but they’re genuinely helpful when you need them – they actually know the area and can point you toward the lesser-known hiking trails or tell you which restaurants are worth your time versus the tourist traps. That 9-point rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed there; it’s not trying to be fancy, but everything just works the way it should. Honestly, for the price point and location, you’d be hard-pressed to find something better in Zakopane, especially if you value having some space to spread out and the freedom to eat breakfast in your pajamas instead of getting dressed for the hotel dining room.
