Apartament Wielka Turnia by Apart Concept Podhale
Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of mountain apartments over the years, but this place in Kościelisko actually surprised me. The Apartament Wielka Turnia sits in this quiet residential area called Chotarz-Bór – honestly, I had to use GPS twice to find it the first time because it’s tucked away from the main tourist drag. But that’s exactly what makes it special, you know? You’re literally a five-minute drive from all the Zakopane chaos, yet when you step outside in the morning, all you hear are birds and maybe the occasional tractor from the nearby farms.
The apartment itself feels like someone’s stylish second home rather than a typical rental. I mean, whoever designed this place actually thought about how people live – there’s proper counter space in the kitchen (you can actually cook without bumping into everything), the shower has decent water pressure, and they’ve got blackout curtains that work. The mountain views from the main room are honestly ridiculous – on clear mornings you can see Giewont and the whole Tatra range spread out like a postcard. What really got me though was the attention to small stuff: good WiFi that doesn’t cut out, plenty of outlets near the bed, and they even left some local honey and bread for arrival day. The parking situation is straightforward too – you’ve got your own spot right there, which is honestly a godsend during peak season when finding parking in central Zakopane becomes a contact sport.
Here’s the thing about this location that most people don’t realize until they’re here – Kościelisko is actually perfect for exploring both the Polish and Slovak sides of the Tatras. The border crossing at Łysa Polana is maybe fifteen minutes away, and you can hit trails like Morskie Oko or Dolina Pięciu Stawów without dealing with the morning crowds because you’re starting from a different direction. Plus, if you want to grab dinner somewhere decent, there’s this little place called Karczma u Flisaka about ten minutes down the road that does proper oscypek and żurek – none of that tourist-trap nonsense you get closer to town. The only minor thing I’d mention is that you’ll definitely want a car here; while there are buses, they’re not super frequent, and honestly, having wheels gives you so much more flexibility for exploring the area. But if you’re looking for a genuine mountain retreat that doesn’t feel like every other rental, and you want to experience this region the way locals do rather than being stuck in the Zakopane tourist bubble, this place is absolutely worth it.
