Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of places around Zakopane, but Apartament u Marii caught me off guard in the best way possible. When I first pulled up to 4A Jaszczurówka-Bory – and yes, you’ll want to GPS that because it’s tucked away from the main tourist chaos – I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from a 3-star spot. But Maria (I’m assuming that’s the owner’s name) has created something pretty special here in apartment A1.

The location is actually brilliant if you know Zakopane at all. You’re far enough from the madness of Krupówki Street that you can actually sleep at night, but close enough to walk to the real attractions without dealing with the souvenir shop gauntlet. I mean, you can hear the Tatra Mountains calling your name from the windows – there’s this crisp, pine-scented air that hits you when you step outside that immediately tells you you’re somewhere special. The Jaszczurówka area has this local vibe that most tourists never discover, with actual Polish families going about their daily lives instead of just highlander costume performers.

What really got me was the attention to detail inside. The apartment feels like someone’s actual home rather than a sterile hotel room – there are these little touches that you don’t expect from a mid-range place. The kitchen is properly equipped (I made coffee every morning and it didn’t taste like sadness), the bathroom has decent water pressure, and honestly, the bed was comfortable enough that I overslept twice. The heating works well too, which matters more than you’d think when you’re visiting in shoulder season and the mountain weather decides to remind you who’s boss. Parking was straightforward, which anyone who’s driven through central Zakopane will appreciate – no circling blocks looking for a spot or paying tourist prices at hotel lots. The whole check-in process was smooth, none of that awkward key-juggling or “the system is down” nonsense.

You know what really sealed it for me though? The rating of 9 isn’t just inflated tourist reviews – it’s earned. This place delivers on the basics without pretending to be something it’s not. It’s clean, quiet, well-located, and the value is honestly hard to beat for what you get. If you’re the type who needs a concierge and room service, this isn’t your spot. But if you want a genuine base for exploring the Tatras, with enough space to spread out and feel human after a day of hiking, Maria’s place hits that sweet spot perfectly.
