Apartament Szymanowskiego
You know what struck me first about Apartament Szymanowskiego? The address itself tells you everything – you’re staying on a street named after the famous Polish composer, right in the heart of Zakopane where the locals actually live. It’s this perfectly positioned spot on Karola Szymanowskiego street where you can literally walk to Krupówki (the main pedestrian strip) in about eight minutes, but you’re far enough away that you won’t hear drunk tourists singing Polish folk songs at 2 AM.
I’ve stayed in a bunch of places in Zakopane over the years, and honestly, this apartment nails that sweet spot between location and tranquility. The building itself has that solid, no-nonsense Polish construction – thick walls that actually keep the mountain cold out, unlike some of the newer places that look fancy but have paper-thin insulation. What I really appreciated was how the owner clearly knows their stuff about hosting. Check-in was smooth (they actually answer their phone, which is rarer than you’d think), and they had this folder with local recommendations that weren’t just the obvious tourist traps. I mean, they pointed me toward this little oscypek vendor near the Wielka Krokiew ski jump that most visitors never find.
The apartment feels genuinely lived-in rather than sterile – there’s proper lighting for reading, enough outlets that aren’t hidden behind furniture, and the kitchen actually has sharp knives and decent pots. Small things, but they matter when you’re staying somewhere for more than a night or two. The view looks out toward the Tatras, and on clear mornings you can see why people have been coming to this valley for over a century. Parking can be a bit tricky during peak season (July-August and winter holidays), but there’s usually space on the side streets if you’re willing to walk an extra block. The 9-point rating makes sense – it’s not trying to be some luxury resort, but it delivers exactly what you want from a Zakopane base camp. Whether you’re heading up to Morskie Oko, taking the cable car to Kasprowy Wierch, or just wandering around town sampling regional food, you’ll come back to a place that feels like a proper retreat rather than just somewhere to crash.
You'll need to let the property know in advance what time you'll arrive.
