Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Matejki Street – I mean, it’s this quiet residential strip in Karpacz that you’d probably walk right past if you weren’t looking for it. But Apartament Szarotka turned out to be one of those pleasant surprises that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something the tour groups haven’t found yet.

The thing about this place is how it actually feels like staying in someone’s well-kept home rather than another cookie-cutter rental. You know what I mean? The apartment itself is on the second floor (there’s no elevator, just so you know), and when you’re hauling your bags up, you start wondering if you made the right choice. But then you get inside and – well, it’s clear why this place has a 9.1 rating. Everything’s been thoughtfully put together, from the kitchen that actually has proper cooking equipment (not those sad little hotel setups) to windows that frame the Karkonosze mountains in a way that makes you want to just sit there with your morning coffee for way too long. The floors have this warm wood feel under your feet, and there’s enough space to spread out without bumping into each other if you’re traveling with someone.

What really sold me on the location, though, is how you’re tucked away from the main tourist chaos but still close enough to everything that matters. The ski lifts are maybe a ten-minute walk – I timed it because I’m obsessive like that – and you can actually hear the cable cars in the morning, which sounds annoying but is sort of charming once you get used to it. If you’re here in summer, the hiking trails basically start from your doorstep, and there’s this little path behind the building that locals use as a shortcut to the forest areas. Parking was surprisingly easy too (there’s a spot that comes with the apartment), which honestly saved my sanity because anyone who’s tried to park in Karpacz during peak season knows it’s basically a contact sport. The owner was super responsive when I had questions, and check-in was refreshingly straightforward – none of that awkward key-passing dance you sometimes get with apartment rentals. My only minor gripe is that the wifi gets a bit spotty when it rains, but honestly, if you’re in the Sudetes and spending all your time online, you’re probably doing it wrong anyway.
