Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw “Apartament pod Lipą” on Za Strugiem street, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the best discoveries happen when you’re not trying too hard, and this little apartment absolutely nailed it.
The location is actually brilliant if you know Zakopane at all. Za Strugiem 32 puts you in this sweet spot where you’re close enough to walk to Krupówki (the main pedestrian street that gets absolutely packed with tourists) but far enough away that you won’t hear drunk groups stumbling back at 2 AM. I mean, you’re maybe a 10-minute walk from all the chaos, but the street itself is surprisingly quiet – mostly locals going about their business. There’s this massive linden tree right outside (that’s the “pod Lipą” part, which means “under the linden” for those keeping track), and honestly, it’s kind of charming how the whole place is named after it. Very Polish, very straightforward.
What really got me was how the owners – I’m assuming they’re local because they knew every hiking trail I asked about – have set this place up like they actually understand what travelers need. The apartment itself feels lived-in rather than sterile, which I appreciate. You’ve got proper kitchen equipment (not those sad hotel coffee makers), decent Wi-Fi that actually works when you’re trying to upload those Tatra Mountain photos, and – this is key in Zakopane – good heating for when those mountain temperatures drop faster than you’d expect. The bathroom’s small but functional, and there’s enough space to spread out your hiking gear without tripping over everything. Parking was surprisingly easy too, which anyone who’s driven through Zakopane’s narrow streets during peak season will tell you is basically a miracle.
I stayed here in late September when the crowds were thinning but the weather was still decent for hiking, and the whole experience felt refreshingly normal. No overly enthusiastic front desk staff, no trying-too-hard décor – just a solid base camp for exploring the area. The 10-rating thing might seem inflated, but I get it. Sometimes a place just works exactly as advertised without any surprises or disappointments, and that’s worth something. You’re five minutes from decent grocery stores, the bus connections to the cable cars are straightforward, and when you come back exhausted from a day on the trails, you can actually relax instead of dealing with hotel nonsense. It’s the kind of place I’d book again without overthinking it, which honestly says more than any fancy amenities list ever could.
