Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of Zakopane apartments over the years, and Apartament Owczarnia honestly surprised me – in the best way possible. When you’re walking down Goszczyńskiego, it’s one of those streets that feels properly local (not touristy like Krupówki can get), and finding number 25 is straightforward enough. The building itself isn’t flashy, but once you’re inside the apartment, you get why this place has such a solid 9 rating.
What really got me was how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between mountain cozy and actually functional. I mean, you know how some Zakopane places go overboard with the highland kitsch? This one keeps it tasteful – there’s definitely that Tatra vibe with the wood details and mountain views, but you’re not drowning in fake folk art. The space feels bigger than you’d expect, and honestly, the kitchen is better equipped than my flat back home. I actually ended up cooking a few meals instead of eating out every night, which saved me a fortune (and let’s be real, your stomach needs a break from oscypek and kielbasa eventually). The wifi held up fine for video calls too, which was clutch since I was juggling some work stuff.
Here’s what I wish someone had told me before booking – parking isn’t included, but there’s street parking that’s not too brutal to find if you’re not arriving during peak summer or winter ski season. The apartment gets properly quiet at night, which is actually remarkable considering you’re still within walking distance of the main action. It’s maybe a 15-minute stroll to Krupówki, but close enough to those little local spots on Tetmajera where you can grab decent pierogi without the tourist markup. The hosts were pretty responsive when I had a question about the heating (mountain evenings get chilly even in summer, just saying), and check-in was smooth – none of that waiting around nonsense. You know what really sealed it for me though? The morning light coming through those windows with the Tatras in the background. I’m not usually one for getting sentimental about views, but it’s the kind of thing that makes you want to wake up early with your coffee. For a 3-star place, it punches way above its weight – I’ve definitely paid more for less in other mountain towns.
