You know what struck me first about Apartament “Nad Jedlicą”? The name actually means something here – it’s literally “Above Jedlica,” and when you’re walking up 1-go Maja street (May 1st Street, for those keeping track), you really do feel like you’re climbing into this quieter pocket of Kowary that most tourists completely miss. I mean, apartment 13 sounds unlucky on paper, but honestly, the location couldn’t be better if you’re the type who wants to experience this little Sudeten foothills town like someone who actually lives here.
The building itself has that solid, no-nonsense Polish architecture that’s become oddly comforting to me over the years – thick walls that actually keep sound out (rare in vacation rentals, trust me), and windows that frame the kind of mountain views you’d pay extra for elsewhere. What really gets me is how the owners have managed to nail that sweet spot between homey and clean without going overboard on the Pinterest-perfect styling. The kitchen actually has proper knives and pans you’d want to cook with, which – look, if you’ve stayed in enough European apartments, you know this isn’t a given. There’s this lived-in quality that makes you feel like you’re borrowing a friend’s place rather than camping out in some sterile rental unit.
But here’s the thing about Kowary that most people don’t realize until they’re here: it’s positioned perfectly for both the lazy traveler and the adventure seeker. You’re literally a short walk from the town center (and I mean actually short, not “short 20-minute hike” short), but you’re also sitting right at the base of some serious hiking territory. The Karkonosze Mountains are right there, and honestly, staying at this apartment means you can stumble out of bed, grab coffee, and be on a trail before the day-trippers from Wrocław even think about leaving their hotels. Plus – and this is crucial if you’re visiting in summer – the elevation here means it’s actually bearable when the lowlands are sweltering.
The 9.6 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there. It’s not trying to be fancy, but everything just works the way it should. The shower has proper pressure, the wifi doesn’t cut out every ten minutes, and there’s enough space to spread out without feeling like you’re living in each other’s pockets. I particularly appreciated that the hosts seem to understand what travelers actually need – good lighting for reading, surfaces where you can actually set things down, and (this is key) clear instructions for everything from the heating to the garbage situation. Small stuff, but it adds up to the difference between a stressful stay and one where you can actually relax and enjoy being in this corner of Lower Silesia that feels authentically Polish without being stuck in a time warp.
