You know what surprised me about Apartament Góralka? It’s tucked away on this quiet little stretch of Małe Żywczańskie street, and honestly, I almost walked right past it the first time. The building doesn’t scream “look at me” – which turned out to be exactly what I needed after dealing with the chaos around Krupówki street where all the tourists pile up.

The apartment itself feels like staying at your Polish grandmother’s place, if your grandmother had really good taste and actually cared about having decent Wi-Fi. I mean, it’s got that mountain cottage vibe without being all kitschy about it – real wooden accents, not the fake stuff you see everywhere. The kitchen actually works (I made coffee every morning and it beat the hell out of hotel instant), and there’s this little balcony where you can sit with your morning drink and watch people heading toward the Tatra trails. The heating works properly too, which… trust me, in Zakopane in shoulder season, that’s not always a given. I stayed in October and some nights got pretty chilly.

What really sold me on the place was how quiet it stays, even when the town center gets absolutely nuts during peak times. You’re maybe a ten-minute walk from all the action on Krupówki – close enough that you don’t need to drive or catch anything, but far enough that you’re not dealing with drunk tourists stumbling around at midnight. The neighborhood feels more like where actual locals live, you know? I’d walk past the same dog walker every morning, same elderly guy tending his garden. There’s a little grocery store about three blocks away where the woman behind the counter started recognizing me by day three. Parking was straightforward too – there’s space right outside, which if you’ve ever tried to park near the main tourist areas in Zakopane, you’ll appreciate that small miracle. The whole check-in process was smooth, none of that awkward waiting around in a lobby situation. The owner clearly knows what they’re doing – everything was ready when they said it would be, clean towels actually smelled fresh, that sort of thing. Honestly, for a 3-star place, it punches way above its weight. I’ve stayed in fancier hotels that felt more impersonal and cost twice as much.
