You know what struck me first about Apartament Antolka? The address alone tells you everything – ul. Antałówka na Wierch literally means “up the hill,” and honestly, that’s exactly where you’ll find yourself. This isn’t one of those cookie-cutter places right in Zakopane’s touristy Krupówki center, which actually turned out to be perfect for us.
The apartment sits in this quiet residential area where you can actually hear the mountains (I mean that – there’s this incredible silence at night that city folks like me forget exists). It’s maybe a 15-minute walk down to the main drag, but here’s the thing – you’ll want to have a car or be prepared for that uphill trek back, especially if you’re carrying groceries from the Biedronka down in town. The local buses do run up here, though the schedule can be… well, let’s call it flexible. What I loved about the location is you’re genuinely living like locals do – there’s this little bakery just around the corner where the owner barely speaks English but makes these incredible oscypek pastries that’ll ruin you for breakfast anywhere else.
Inside, it’s clear someone actually thought about what travelers need rather than just throwing together random furniture. The kitchen has proper pots and pans (not those flimsy things you usually get), and there’s enough space to spread out without bumping into each other constantly. The Wi-Fi worked perfectly, which matters when you’re trying to figure out hiking trails or book dinner reservations. One small thing – the shower pressure is fantastic, but the hot water takes a minute to kick in, so don’t panic. The place sleeps four comfortably, and I appreciated that the beds weren’t those rock-hard European mattresses you sometimes encounter. Parking’s right there, which in Zakopane is basically gold – you’ll understand once you see the chaos downtown during peak season.
What really sells this place is how it connects you to the real Zakopane experience. You’re close enough to hit Gubałówka Hill without fighting crowds for parking, but far enough from the madness that you can actually relax. The Tatra trails are accessible from multiple directions up here, and honestly, starting your hikes from this side of town means you skip a lot of the tourist bottlenecks. In winter, you can hear the snow plows working their way up the hill at dawn – oddly soothing, actually. The host was responsive without being intrusive, left us detailed notes about everything from trash collection days to the best pizza place that delivers up the hill (it’s called Primo, and yes, they’ll find you even without perfect address directions). For a three-star place with a 9 rating, Apartament Antolka delivers exactly what it promises – a genuine base camp for exploring the Tatras without the inflated prices and artificial charm of the hotel strip.
You'll need to let the property know in advance what time you'll arrive.
