Amont Chalet
So I stumbled across Amont Chalet purely by accident last spring – honestly, I was just trying to find somewhere decent to stay near Bran Castle without dealing with all the tourist chaos, and this place turned out to be exactly what I didn’t know I was looking for. It’s tucked away in Pestera village, which is basically this quiet little spot that most people drive right through on their way to the more famous mountain destinations. The chalet sits right on the main road (Principala street), but don’t let that fool you – it’s surprisingly peaceful, especially in the evenings when the only sounds are church bells from the village center and maybe some sheep wandering around.
What really struck me about this place is how it manages to feel both polished and genuinely local at the same time. The owners – I mean, I assume they’re the owners – clearly put thought into every detail without making it feel stuffy or overly designed. My room had this perfect view of the Bucegi Mountains, and you know what? The morning light hits those peaks in a way that makes you understand why people write poetry about Romanian countryside. The breakfast spread was honestly impressive – proper local cheeses, fresh bread that actually tasted like bread, and coffee that didn’t make me miss my usual café back home. Plus, they had this homemade plum jam that I’m still thinking about months later.
Here’s the thing though – and this is probably why it has such a crazy high rating – it’s positioned perfectly if you want to explore this part of Brasov County without feeling like you’re constantly fighting crowds. Rasnov Citadel is maybe fifteen minutes away, Bran Castle is close enough for a quick visit, but you’re far enough from the main tourist strips that you can actually relax. The parking situation is straightforward (thank god), and the staff seemed genuinely happy to help with directions or recommendations. I remember asking about hiking trails, and instead of just handing me a generic map, they actually drew out a route that led to this incredible viewpoint that I never would have found otherwise. It’s that kind of place where you feel like you’re getting the insider experience without having to work for it, if that makes sense.
