You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Amda Studio on Aleea Viorelelor – honestly, the street name sounds way fancier than it actually is. It’s this quiet little residential area in Onești where you can actually hear birds in the morning instead of traffic, which is honestly refreshing if you’re used to staying in city centers. The building itself has this modern, minimalist vibe that immediately tells you someone put real thought into the design rather than just slapping together another generic hotel.

What really got me was the attention to detail once I stepped inside. The studios – and they really are proper studios, not just hotel rooms with a mini-fridge shoved in the corner – feel like someone’s well-designed apartment that they’re letting you borrow. The kitchenette actually has everything you need if you want to grab groceries from the Carrefour down the road (about a 10-minute walk, by the way), and the bathroom has one of those rainfall showers that makes you want to stay in there way too long. I mean, for a 4-star place, it punches above its weight in terms of comfort. The bed situation is solid too – firm but not like sleeping on concrete, and the blackout curtains actually work, which you’d be surprised how rare that is.

The staff here gets it, you know? They’re not hovering around trying to upsell you on spa treatments or restaurant reservations, but when you need something, they’re genuinely helpful. The guy at reception (I think his name was Mihai) gave me actual local recommendations – not the tourist trap stuff, but where to get the best mici in town and which hiking trails around the Carpathians are worth the drive. That kind of insider knowledge is gold when you’re trying to experience a place beyond just your hotel room. Parking is free and right there, which honestly saved me a headache since I was driving around Romania for a couple weeks. The 9.6 rating makes sense once you’ve been there – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in the world, but everything works exactly as it should, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need after a long day of travel.
