So I stumbled across Agropensiunea Andrei & Ianis on Strada Gardea, and honestly, it was one of those happy accidents that make you feel like you’ve discovered something special. The place sits in Dăeşti – yeah, it’s definitely not Bucharest, but that’s exactly the point. You’re surrounded by actual Romanian countryside here, the kind where you can hear roosters in the morning and the air smells like fresh grass instead of car exhaust.
The hosts, Andrei and Ianis, run this place like they’re welcoming family rather than checking in guests. I mean, within ten minutes of arriving, I was getting recommendations for the best local hiking trails and being offered homemade țuică (fair warning – it’s stronger than you think). The guesthouse itself has that authentic rural Romanian feel without being rustic to the point of discomfort. The rooms are clean and comfortable – nothing fancy, but you’ve got solid beds, decent Wi-Fi, and bathrooms that actually have hot water when you need it. What really got me was the attention to small details: fresh flowers from their garden in the rooms, locally made soap, and windows that actually open properly so you can let in that mountain air.
The breakfast deserves its own paragraph because it’s basically a love letter to Romanian countryside cooking. We’re talking fresh eggs from their own chickens, bread that was clearly baked that morning, local honey that’s so good you’ll want to buy a jar to take home, and cheese from farms just down the road. They serve it in this cozy dining area where you can watch the sunrise over the hills – assuming you’re an early riser, which the roosters will pretty much guarantee anyway. The location is perfect if you’re exploring the Carpathian foothills or just want to disconnect from city life for a while. Dăeşti is close enough to Râmnicu Vâlcea that you can drive there for supplies or a restaurant meal, but far enough out that you feel like you’re actually experiencing rural Romania rather than just passing through it. Parking is easy (just pull up in front), and the whole area is quiet except for the occasional tractor or dog barking in the distance. That 9-star rating makes total sense when you factor in the genuine hospitality, the setting, and the fact that you’re paying countryside prices for an experience that feels both authentic and comfortable.
